Installation

If you have MapMagic 1 asset installed it's recommended to remove it before installing MapMagic 2.

MapMagic is installed the way any other Unity asset does.
If MapMagic is your first asset and you are not familiar with the installation procedure you can refer Unity manual (Asset Store and Asset Packages) to find out how it's done, or follow these steps:

The Tessellation and Parallax module for MicroSplat adds several new features to the MicroSplat framework.Features Added: - Tessellation with displacement mapping - Parallax Offset Mapping, which adds an added depth effect to tessellated or non. MicroSplat tessellation is incredibly fast, and when enabled generates custom fallback shaders used beyond the tessellation range to reduce the cost even further. Requires the MicroSplat. This is a paid asset, but now you can download Gaia Pro – Terrain & Scene Generator Free. Detail this asset from Unity Asset Store: Original Link Gaia Pro – Terrain Scene Generator v2.2.4 (Latest version).

  • Open MapMagic page at the Unity Asset Store site.

  • Click Add To My Assets button.

  • Open the Asset Store window (Windows - Asset Store), log into your account, and open up your assets list by clicking My Assets button at the top of the window.

  • Find MapMagic 2 in the list, and click Download.

  • Once the asset is dowloaded, the Download button will be replaced with the Import one.

  • Clicking Import button will open up an import window after a while. Make sure that all of the checkbox are enabled if you want to install the full version. You can unckeck some folders if you'd like to:

    • Demo: the demo graphs, scenes, textures, meshes that take up most of the space of MM asset. MapMagic will work fine without these assets.

    • Compatibility: compatibility packs for MicroSplat, MegaSplat, Vegetation Studio Pro and CTS.

    These folders could be imported anytime later from the AssetStore window.

  • Click Import button and wait for the asset to be imported. After this, Assets/MapMagic folder will be created in your project. You can then rename the folder or move it inside the other, it does not affect the asset operation.

The Anti-Tiling module for MicroSplat adds several new features to the MicroSplat framework.

Features Added:

– Detail Noise, which adds detail when getting close to textures.
– Distance Noise, which modulates the textures in a distance with noise to break up tiling patterns
– Distance Resampling, which resamples the terrain textures in the distance at a different scale to break up tiling patterns
– Normal Noise, which blends a second normal map into the first, adding variation across the terrain. Up to 3 layers of normal noise can be used to create complex variations.
– Anti-Tile Array, which allows you to combine a noise normal, detail, and distance texture for each texture on your terrain into a packed texture array.

Per Texture strength controls are available for all features, allowing you to control how much of each effect to use on each texture. Effects unused are optimized out of the shader to have no cost.

Requires the MicroSplat framework to be installed.

Personally, it doesn’t work too great for my project because I’m keeping things pretty simplistic and minimalist, so I’ve had to find other ways to avoid tiling.

However! If you’re into realistic or even semi-realistic terrain painting with MicroSplat, this module will help you a ton.
